staff:

Congrats to the Fred Levy and his Black Dogs Project blog. It’s an effort to correct the fact that black dogs are sadly, routinely passed over for adoption. It’s nothing but photos of black dogs against black backgrounds, it’s beautiful, and it’s about to become a book. It’ll be out in fall of 2015, and its pages will be heavy with ink.

If you yourself have a black dog, by the way, Fred still needs models…

Even though this is pretty gruesome to look at, i think this picture means a big deal to me. Generally when people talk about saving animals, the same suspects always pop up. It’s always “save the polar bears!”, “save the whales!” and what I’ve found to be the most popular one: “save the pandas!”. The cuter animals tend to get more fuss, but every animal should be equally important. This was captioned with “when you see tuna, think panda!”. This is a horrific way to treat any animal. Fish or mammal, it’s completely wrong, and what i love about this picture is that it really puts it into perspective. So powerful.
